Livingston United Parish Church hosted the Annual Gathering in 2023 and is actively working towards its Gold Award.

Our congregation fully embraces the key areas of caring for God’s Earth through spiritual, practical and global living.

Global Action:

Livingston United Parish Church is a registered as a Fair-Trade Place of Worship and a member of The Scottish Fair Trade Forum. We use Fairtrade teas, coffees and sugar in The Barn Café and sell chocolate Divine Advent Calendars and Easter Eggs. Our group comprises Norma Brown, Sue Brown and Marjory McGhie. We are strong supporters of Christian Aid in terms of fundraising and campaigning for climate justice.

Spiritual Action:

Our worship services throughout the year offer an opportunity to sing, pray and reflect on our love and deep concern for God’s Earth. Our 9.30 intergenerational worship teams like to incorporate ideas from the congregation. Here’s an example, “Seeing Glimpses of God’s Creation in our World”.

Practical Action:

A recent Eco Action survey of 20 members highlighted the numerous and wide-ranging environmental organizations which they each support. The sharing of these results has generated a wonderful informal discussion, opening everyone’s eyes and minds further to the importance of caring for all God’s creatures and His Earth.

Copies of our “Green Guide for Users of Church Hall and Kitchen” are circulated throughout the building. This was written for our Silver Award in a bid to reduce our carbon footprint and to encourage everyone using our building to be mindful in their use of heating, lighting and water. Information on recycling of waste has recently been updated.
